New Motor Break-In Instructions:
This motor is engineered to work with stock factory controllers and aftermarket controllers programmed with a custom, motor-specific field map. Using an incorrectly programmed controller may result in motor damage and will void all warranties.
Break-In Procedure:
- Step 1 – Initial Drive: Drive the vehicle for 8–10 miles at varying speeds, accelerating gently throughout.
-
Step 2 – Temperature Monitoring: Drive on a level surface (pavement or asphalt). Gradually accelerate and maintain full speed for 5–10 minutes, then stop and check motor temperature.
- During the first 30 minutes, check temperature every 10 minutes by touching the aluminum end bell (silver component near the center of the motor).
- If the end bell is too hot to touch, stop and allow the motor to cool before continuing.
- If you can hold your hand on it for 5+ seconds, it is safe to continue for a few more miles. Repeat until the 8–10 mile break-in is complete.
- CAUTION: Avoid touching any exposed electrical connections while power is on.
- NOTE: Speed and torque will improve as brushes seat against the commutator. A cooler-running motor is a more efficient motor.
